I am Mira Arts a Bulgarian-Dutch maker weaver working from Roermond, the Netherlands.
I believe that creative expression, like water, naturally finds its path, overcoming obstacles to surface and flows freely. I find inspiration in rolling hills and landscapes, vibrant Mediterranean colors, flowing rivers, sea waves, beautiful beaches, and the organic forms of nature.
Free weaver
My creative process is the ultimate form of freedom for me – tactile, intuitive, and meditative. I start with an idea, often sparked by a form, composition, or color, and then carefully select the main materials before beginning on the loom. As the work unfolds, the materials, form, and colors interact in unexpected ways, and I never know exactly how the finished piece will look. This uncertainty is what makes the process so exciting and personal.
Fiber forager
In my worx, I love working with natural fibers like cotton, wool, and linen, along with mixed material fibers. I often incorporate pre-owned, repurposed, and recycled fibers, as well as hand-spun and hand-dyed materials from local sources. Just like a painter with a full palette, I enjoy having a wide range of colors and textures to play with. This makes the result unique.
